New York Gov. Kathy Hochul blamed an “illegal gun” in the fatal shooting of NYPD officer Jason Rivera.
They blamed the firearm and not the criminal directly out of the Gun Control for Dummies playbook.
The shooting suspect, Lashawn McNeil, opened fire on Jason Rivera and other officers.
New York Governor Kathy Hochul tweeted:
“Last night, a shot from an illegal gun took the life of a NYPD officer. When I say we’re going to do everything we can to stop the scourge of illegal guns in our state, it’s not just talk. We are tripling funding for efforts to get these guns off the streets.”
New York Mayor Eric Adams also responded to the shooting death of Jason Rivera by calling for more gun control.
He tweeted:
"There are no gun manufacturers in our city. How are we removing thousands of guns off our streets and somehow they still find their way into the hands of killers? We need Washington to act now to stop the flow of weapons into our cities."
He also tweeted, “We are all witnesses. To gun violence. To these murders. To the failures of leaders who have allowed these killers to get ahold of guns.”
New York already has some of the most stringent gun controls in the country that did nothing to stop this shooting.
