Six years old.
Seven years old.
Twelve years old.
Fourteen years old.
This happened in New York City, one of the most heavily gun-controlled cities in America, with extra NYPD officers deployed for the holiday.
And still, the shooter walked up to a family barbecue and opened fire.
That tells you everything.
New York’s gun laws did not stop the masked man.
They did not stop the shooting.
They did not protect the kids.
They only made sure the law-abiding people at that barbecue were less likely to have a way to defend themselves when evil showed up at the fence.
And here’s the line that blows the whole gun-control argument apart:
The reporter said this likely was not random.
It was targeted.
Then the same report connected it to possible retaliation after a recent gang takedown in Coney Island.
So which New York gun law was supposed to stop that?
A waiting period?
A magazine limit?
Another form at the counter?
The person walking up in a ski mask to settle a gang score is not the person being stopped by paperwork.
That is the con.
The law reaches the family at the barbecue.
It does not reach the shooter.
New York is the control group for the gun-control experiment:
Strict laws.
Extra cops.
Cameras everywhere.
And when the moment came, those families were still on their own.
Feeling safe and being safe are not the same thing.
Get your permit.
Get trained.
Own the gun.
Because when the masked man shows up at your fence, the cops may be coming.
But they are not there yet.
