5:03Now PlayingWe have completed, delivered, and mounted our first magnet for SPARC inside Tokamak Hall ✅ 🧲 .
The significance of this toroidal field (TF) magnet achievement can't be overstated. In many ways, its story is the CFS story. Back when the company started in 2018, some thought creating a TF magnet with high-temperature superconductor (HTS) was a farfetched idea. But our founders' resolve to develop this key innovation unlocked our new pathway to a smaller, more economical fusion power plant.
This toroidal field (TF) magnet is one of 18 that'll be threaded around the vacuum vessel to help tame and confine the superhot plasma once our SPARC tokamak is operational. The vacuum vessel, the donut-shaped container at the heart of the machine as devoid of air as outer space, offers the extreme conditions needed for fusion. The TF magnets help create a magnetic bottle, confining the fusion plasma to keep it away from the vessel walls that would cool it down.
