The Boy Who Vanished at the Movies | Walter Collins
Nine-year-old Walter Collins vanished after going to a movie theater near his home in Lincoln Heights, Los Angeles. Despite an extensive campaign to find him, Walter remained missing until five months later when a boy claiming to be Walter Collins was found in Illinois. However, Christine was convinced that the child was not her son. She was later institutionalized in a psychiatric ward under “Code 12” for refusing to accept the boy as her son. The boy, who was eventually revealed to be 12-year-old Arthur Hutchins from Iowa, had seen Walter's photo and used the opportunity to escape his stepmother, who had mistreated him.
