In the 1920s, Sister Aimee packed stadiums, preached over the radio, staged elaborate sermons, and turned religion into spectacle. Then, in 1926, she vanished during a trip to Venice Beach. People thought she drowned...but weeks later, she returned with an incredible story.
What followed was a media frenzy, a grand jury investigation, accusations of a kidnapping hoax, and a level of fame that only grew louder the more questions people asked.
