YouTube Description
as posted by the channelAt the end of a long day that went into the night, I walked from my office to the Capitol where, one year ago today, people who sought to overthrow our government violently stormed and rioted, incited by the lies and demagoguery of a former president and others.
Despite it all, I still believe that we can make ours a more perfect Union in our lifetime.
Democracy is not inevitable; it is never certain. We must earn it, work, and sacrifice for it. It will take great personal courage and relentless acts of grace. In actions big but most often small, each of us must serve those principles in how we conduct ourselves in the world and especially with each other.
May we not just point fingers of blame as we reflect on last year; may we also take responsibility and commit ourselves to improving this republic.
