June 28th, 2015, Bonita Springs FL. After cutting a family trip to CT short, specifically to see patients the following morning, 46 year old Dr. Teresa Sievers did not show up to the office on June 29th. She ALWAYS showed up to the office...

When a friend of her husband's went to check on her, he found Teresa lying on the kitchen floor in a pool of blood. There was a hammer lying next to her, and she was cold to the touch... She had been struck 17 times in the head with that hammer...

After a failed first marriage, Teresa would marry Mark Sievers in 2003, they would go on to have 2 daughters.

Teresa was the breadwinner of the family, with a very successful holistic practice, and Mark was actually her office manager... He was also delegated mostly to a "stay at home dad" status.

During the attack, over $40k and Marks extensive gun collection were not touched... So what was the motive? Well Teresa Sievers did have multiple life insurance polices totaling over $4m dollars... Could this have been the reason for her murder?

Nearly 2 months went by without an arrest, but after receiving some tips on the case, detectives Arrested Mark Sievers childhood friend Curtis Wayne Wright, and Jimmy Rodgers in Missouri... This is the first interrogation of Curtis Wayne Wright, Jimmy Rodgers invoked his Miranda Rights and did not speak with detectives.

Conclusion and SPOILERS!

In the early morning of June 27th, 2015 Curtis Wright took a rental car from his home in Missouri, picked up Jimmy Rodgers, and the two drove over 1000 miles to the Sievers home in Bonita Springs, FL. Detectives were able to track their GPS log for the entire trip.

Upon arriving at the residence, the 2 men disabled the alarm system, drove to pick up more supplies, and return to wait for Teresa to get home.

They then ambushed her in the kitchen, again striking her 17 times in the head with the hammer, packed up and drove back to Missouri.

Curtis Wayne Wright took a plea deal and received a 25 year sentence in exchange for his testimony against Mark Sievers and Jimmy Rodgers. He pleaded guilty to 2nd degree murder.

Jimmy Rodgers, who was initially facing 1st degree murder charges and a possible death penalty, was ultimately found guilty of 2nd degree murder and in December of 2019 was sentenced to life in prison.

SPOILERS BELOW!

Mark Sievers was found guilty of 1st degree murder in December of 2019, and the jury unanimously recommended the death penalty. In January of 2020, he was sentenced to death, and remains on Death Row at Union Correctional Institution.

In November of 2022, Sievers appeal was denied and his conviction was affirmed by the FL Supreme court, just a few weeks later Sievers filed another appeal... That is how that game goes.
