Diet "Prophet" Gwen Shamblin Lara & Leaders of Controversial Church Lives Cut Short in Plane Crash

Gwen Shamblin Lara rose to fame in the 1990s with her weight loss book "Weigh Down Workshop" - the book & workshop became a staple in Christian Churches with over 1,000 participating in her program. At the peak she ran workshops globally to over 250,000 people.

She founded a church that over the years has become very controversial for their radical beliefs, obedience to Gwen, and the church demanding members cut ties with anyone outside of the church. Gwen called herself a prophet & each year the church held a conference to worship her.

Yesterday, she and 6 others - including her son-in-law and husband, actor Joe Lara, who starred in Tarzan were lost in a plane crash.
