She was the first former welfare mother to serve in Congress. She talks about her work with the Congressional Progressive Caucus and her decision to co-found the Out of Iraq Caucus in opposition to the Iraq War. She also discusses her efforts to protect the California coast. The U.S. House of Representatives Office of the Historian conducted the interviews.
