as posted by the channelHouse passes a one-week government funding extension to prevent a partial shutdown Friday night, with the Senate expected to follow, after House and Senate leadership announce an agreement on a package of six government spending bills that will be voted on next week. But conservative House Republicans in the Freedom Caucus are opposing it.
Democratic President Joe Biden and Republican former President Donald Trump, leading candidates for their parties' nominations for president this year, both visit the U.S.-Mexico border in Texas to talk about border security and immigration policy.
Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin testifies before the House Armed Services Committee about why he did not tell the White House, Congress and the public for days about his hospitalization and transfer of authority to his deputy in January. He says, "I did not handle it right". One Republican House Member asks the Secretary if was surprised the President did not ask for his resignation.
The White House calls for an investigation into what President Biden labels a "tragic and alarming incident" where Israeli troops reportedly opened fire on Palestinians in Gaza waiting for food aid. Gazan authorities say more than 100 people were killed.
