"The last time we had a press conference, it lasted for three hours," he said. "Some people said, 'He closed his eyes!'"
The president's last Cabinet meeting, on Dec. 2, lasted two hours and 18 minutes, and reporters from the New York Times and CNN said he appeared to doze off.
"Look, it got pretty boring," the president said, prompting laughter in the room. "I didn't sleep, I just closed them because I wanted to get the hell out of here."
