2:14Now PlayingAustin Police Chief Lisa Davis and FBI Special Agent Alex Doran said Monday that investigators are examining potential links between Sunday's mass shooting and U.S. combat operations in Iran but cautioned that it is too early to draw conclusions.
"We see those indicators," Chief Davis said at an afternoon news conference. "The second shirt, with 'Iran,' the picture of the Shah on that t-shirt as well." She emphasized that the investigation remains in its early stages and that determining the gunman's motive will take time.
Special Agent Doran said the FBI is reviewing those possible connections but warned against speculation. "Any declarations on what led to that motive would be premature."
The shooting, which occurred before 2am at a bar near the University of Texas campus in Austin, left two people dead and 14 others injured. Police shot and killed the gunman — identified as a 53-year-old Senegalese-born American citizen — at the scene.
