Hegseth: “The sooner David Ellison takes over [CNN], the better”

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said Friday he looked forward to CNN being controlled by billionaire David Ellison as he criticized media coverage of the war in Iran.

"The sooner David Ellison takes over that network, the better," he said during a briefing at the Pentagon.

Mr. Ellison, an ally of President Trump, owns Paramount Skydance, which stands to acquire CNN through its proposed takeover of Warner Bros. Discovery — a pending sale that requires approval from the Trump administration.

Last week, Mr. Ellison, who also owns CBS, called CNN "an incredible brand with an incredible team" and pledged to uphold its editorial independence.

"Editorial independence will absolutely be maintained," he told CNBC. "It is maintained at CBS. It will be maintained at CNN."
