2:55Now PlayingTransportation Secretary Sean Duffy said his department was working with the National Transportation Safety Board and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to investigate Monday night's collision between a landing Air Canada jet and a fire truck on the runway at New York City's LaGuardia Airport.
The pilot and copilot of the jet were killed in the collision. Forty-one people, including passengers, crew members, and Port Authority Police Department officers, were transported to hospitals. One flight attendant was ejected from the plane; her condition remains unknown. The Port Authority Police Department officers inside the fire truck are reportedly in stable condition.
"It's incredibly sad," Secretary Duffy said at a Monday afternoon briefing at the airport. "I just want to let America know that we are working our hearts off to make sure that when people travel, whether by rail, or car, or by air, that they travel safely."
