as posted by the channelHouse Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA) criticized the Virginia referendum on Tuesday in which voters approved a mid-decade redistricting plan that favors Democrats.
"It's a blatant abuse of power to disenfranchise millions of Virginia voters," the majority leader told reporters Wednesday. "Hopefully, the Supreme Court of the state will not allow that to happen."
The comments come on the heels of Virginia voters approving a new congressional map that could net Democrats as many as four new seats — a response to GOP gerrymandering in red states, most notably Texas.
Republican leaders in Virginia have said they will challenge the new map at the state's Supreme Court.
