David Baldacci: "I was on a plane one time, minding my own business at 35,000 feet. A pilot comes out of the cockpit, calls a flight attendant over. This is before 9/11. And and then she goes off and gets a sheaf of papers. Comes back over there looking through this, looking through this. And the pilot looks directly at me. And then he goes, thank you. And flight attendant walks past. She kind of looks at me like in a weird way, and I'm like, oh my God, it's a plane going down. What's going on here? And then the pilot comes over and sits down next to me and I'm like, really freaking out now. And he said, can I ask you something? And I said, can I talk to you about something? I said, yeah, but I said, can I text my wife? Because if we're going to crash, I'd like to say goodbye. He goes, oh no, no, the plane is fine. I said, Thank God. What do you want to talk about? And he seemed really nervous. And finally he said, I got a great idea for a thriller, do you want to hear it?"
