Senate Judiciary Committee Chair Chuck Grassley (R-IA) used his opening statement at Todd Blanche's confirmation hearing Wednesday to preempt expected Democratic criticism of Justice Department weaponization by pointing to former special counsel Jack Smith's investigations under the Biden administration.

"I urge them to remember the boy who cried wolf and take a long look in the mirror before lecturing anyone about partisanship at the Justice Department," he said, calling it a "runaway political train that improperly obtained political information."
