Tillis: SAVE Act "impossible" to implement before November

Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC) on Thursday railed against efforts to pass and implement the SAVE America Act before the November midterms, arguing it would be impossible to carry out in time and would only undermine confidence in American elections.

"If I see a reconciliation bill come from the House with another failed attempt to confuse this election, I will use every device I have available to slow down the wheels of government until people cop a clue and do the math," he said on the Senate floor.

The retiring senator said he supports voter ID laws and helped implement them in North Carolina but argued the various versions of the SAVE Act floated over the past year are "fundamentally flawed" and have no chance of being properly implemented before November.

"I have been trying to explain for nearly a year that the SAVE Act, whether it's the SAVE Act, the SAVE America Act, the new SAVE legislation that's being proposed in the House, SAVE goes to Hollywood, SAVE goes to Hawaii, whatever the sequels are, all of them are fundamentally flawed and impossible to implement by this election," he said.
