And especially what interests me about the human experience is not a person's triumph, not when things are going well for them, but when they are struggling, when they've experienced, grief or sorrow or failure, when they're looking for a foothold. Because I think that's when we can truly understand someone's character. And so whether it's a place like this or a person, my kids always make fun of me because I'll look at people and I'll say, what do you think that guy's story is? What do you think this room story is? And one of the beauties of doing the work that I do is you get to read people's letters, you get to read people's diaries, and it's not creepy. It's your work."
