House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) slammed comments made by President Trump last night in which the President said he didn't consider Americans' financial situations when making decisions about the war in Iran.

"Donald Trump has made clear that he and the Republican Party don't give a damn about the personal finances of the American people," the Minority Leader said in a news conference on Wednesday. "It's an extraordinary admission, but the reality of the Trump presidency … has regularly made that very point."

In the leadup to November's midterm elections, Democratic lawmakers have hammered Republicans about the increasing cost of living in the United States, especially as tariffs and the war with Iran has driven up the prices of gasoline and consumer goods.

"The economy is a disaster," Rep. Jeffries said. "Costs haven't gone down, costs have gone up, and it's a direct result of Republican policies."
