In this clip, filmmaker Jim Picariello explains his upcoming project The Cult of Us. It's a darkly comedic love story designed to expose cult recruitment, mind control, and hypnosis without turning it into a lecture.
Jim describes the upcoming film. It follows two college roommates recruited into different cults, one is meditation-based the other is a multi-level marketing scheme, who slowly realize something is wrong as they try to save each other. Along the way, they learn how cults manipulate people, isolate them from loved ones, and keep them trapped, ultimately discovering how people can break free and reclaim control of their lives.
As Dr. Steven Hassan often says, storytelling can be one of the most powerful tools for cult education. The Cult of Us aims to entertain while quietly teaching audiences how cults recruit and control, and more importantly, how one can break free with the power of love and human connection.
