Pete Hegseth says "We know who the good guys are." Most Americans don't agree — and the data proves it.
When Pete Hegseth made that claim, he was speaking for about a third of the country. The rest of us are looking at three leaders — Donald Trump , Benjamin Netanyahu , and the Ayatollah (or whoever is leading Iran when this video airs) — and seeing something very different: three men under legal threat, three men who maintain power through manufactured crisis, and three men who have weaponized religion to justify their hold on power.
This is not a patriotic war. There is almost no "rally around the flag" effect. George H.W. Bush had over 85% support in the early days of the 1991 Gulf War. George W. Bush had around 75% in 2003. The Trump Iran war can't come close to those numbers — and independents have broken sharply against it. When a majority of Americans can't identify the good guys in a war their own government started, that's not a media problem. That's a leadership problem.
The Israel Iran war isn't just a geopolitical crisis — it's a theological one. Eighty percent of white evangelicals voted for Donald Trump three times. They have wrapped their faith around a man whose sons are reportedly investing $750 million in drone technology — during the very war their father launched. That is not patriotism. That is profit. And the American church that blessed it has not just harmed the nation — it has destroyed its own conscience.
As a retired evangelical pastor and former lifelong Republican, I'm calling this what it is: the MAGA church did not bring the kingdom of God closer. It handed the keys of power to the most corrupt cast of characters in modern American history. The Republican Party — as it stands today — has become the strongest argument for secular government I have ever witnessed.
This is a theological reckoning. And it's long overdue.
