President Trump defended his decision to send the National Guard and Marines into Los Angeles, claiming it was necessary to stop violent unrest that local authorities couldn't control. He criticized Democratic governors like Gavin Newsom and Tim Walz for delaying deployment of the National Guard, which he argued led to unnecessary destruction and danger. Trump said the situation in LA would have escalated dramatically without federal intervention, potentially resulting in widespread death and devastation.

He referred to violent protesters as “paid insurrectionists” and “agitators,” accusing them of intentionally causing chaos with tools and weapons. Trump emphasized his priority was public safety and order, especially with upcoming international events like the Olympics in LA. When asked about Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum’s condemnation of the violence, Trump said he also condemned it but took action to stop it. Former Governor Kristi Noem joined him in denouncing Democratic leaders, defending the deployment of the military, and criticizing Sheinbaum for encouraging protests. She praised Trump’s use of constitutional authority to protect citizens and law enforcement.
