Putin publicly responded to the leaked 28-point U.S. peace proposal for Ukraine, saying Russia was never properly consulted and that the plan appears stalled because the U.S. cannot get Ukraine to approve it. He argued that Ukraine and European governments still harbor “illusions” about inflicting a strategic defeat on Russia and lack an objective understanding of the battlefield situation or the consequences of continued fighting.

Analyst Larry Johnson (ex-CIA), just back from Russia, agrees that the military balance has shifted decisively. He says Ukrainian defensive lines are collapsing and Russia is advancing rapidly, with Ukraine suffering unsustainable losses: roughly 40,000 killed/wounded per month plus 20,000–40,000 deserters, while it can mobilize only around 17,000 men monthly.
