Patrik Baab argues that Europe has trapped itself by fully aligning with U.S. policy, and now cannot adapt as U.S. interests shift. Under Biden, the U.S. sought to weaken Russia through the Ukraine war; under Trump, the priority is to make a deal with Russia to counter China. Europeans fail to understand this shift and hope a future U.S. administration will save their strategy.

According to the speaker, European political elites need the war to continue because:

Their economies are deteriorating.

They depend on frozen Russian assets.

Ending the war would expose their failures to the public and possibly lead to their political downfall or even prosecution.

If the U.S. abandons European preferences and cuts its own deal with Russia, Europe would lose influence entirely. U.S. and Russian companies would dominate gas supplies through a reorganized Nord Stream, leaving Europe economically weakened and facing long decline, unrest, and potentially several failing states.

European leaders’ proposal to support Ukraine through 2026 with tens of billions in new debt is described as fantasy: they hope for collateral from Ukrainian assets they may never receive—especially if Russia wins. This would leave Europe burdened with debt and failed expectations, further damaging its economy.

The speaker claims European governments are lying to their citizens about the war and fear accountability for the large Ukrainian casualties. Germany’s push to rebuild its military, restore conscription, and expand defense spending is portrayed as an attempt to save jobs in a declining economy, not a real security policy.

He argues younger Germans underestimate war because digital media and propaganda distort its reality. Generational changes and social psychology have made youth more trusting of authorities, weakening democratic skepticism. NATO propaganda, he claims, shapes emotional reactions (especially fear and hostility toward Russia) rather than rational thought.

Regarding German politics, he says the left has lost relevance, leaving the AfD as the main alternative. But the AfD itself is split: one faction favors peace with Russia, while another wants alignment with the U.S. The speaker expects the pro-U.S. faction to ultimately dominate.
