Golden State Warriors President Rick Welts came out to the NBA commissioner and Nike executives before making a public announcement about his sexuality. According to Welts, Nike asked him to tell any athlete considering coming out that they want him as an endorser.
This is seemingly a great thing for Nike to do, but by the sound of it Nike is willing to endorse an openly gay player regardless of their ability and skills. Could this cause some tension and jealousy with fellow teammates?
Is Nike doing this as an ally to the gay community, or simply just taking advantage of the roughly $800 billion spent by the gay community each year?
