These five corporations. Are they families? Or are they corporations?
I have heard Fascism defined as a merging of corporate interests with the state.
What happened in 1933? Was Hitler initially interested in merging corporate Germany with his party? Was that his plan all along? Or did it happen over time?
The Germans have a word. Vergangenheitsbewältigung—it means working through our past. Vergangenheitsbewältigung. I guess if you can say that word you can work through anything.
You are dispelling the commonly held belief that Germany has come to grips with its Nazi past. So tell me how the book is being received in Germany right now? Let’s start with something positive, give me an example of a reaction coming from any unlikely source– a person or corporation that surprised you. A willingness for, if you will Vergangenheitsbewältigung.

Your book covers five wealthy Germany families that not only benefited from but supported the Nazis.
So, if you don’t mind, I’d like to quickly go through the five families, and you tell me what they manufactured before, during and after the Nazis came to power.
The Flicks. You say of the five families…it’s like the Mafia here in new york, the five crime families…you say the Flicks were the only family, or corporation, that went on trial after the war? Was those the nuremberg trials? I know we put the Nazi leadership on trial, but were we putting corporate CEos on trial as well?
What did the Flicks manufacture, and what are they making today?
The Quandts… Who were the Quandts, and start off by telling us what they’re making today that we might have in our garage?
The von Fincks…
What are they selling today?
And are they the German version of the koch brothers, they support far right groups?
Oetkers, who control Dr. Oetker…That seems nice, Dr. Oetker? What does Dr. Oetker make?
