That's the paradox of decapitation. Every time Israel eliminates a leader — Larijani, Qassem Soleimani, Hassan Nasrallah — they're not weakening the enemy. They're guaranteeing the enemy grows worse. Moderates get replaced by apocalyptic hardliners with nothing to lose and no fear of martyrdom.
Same playbook in Gaza. Netanyahu openly admitted to propping up Hamas, letting Qatar funnel hundreds of millions of dollars into Gaza — because Hamas doesn't recognize Israel's right to exist. That kills the two-state solution. That kills Fatah. That kills any diplomatic offramp.
Meanwhile, a State Department cable reported by the Washington Post reveals Netanyahu's own intelligence told him: anyone in Iran who tries to rise up will be slaughtered by the regime. He knew. He told them to rise up anyway while killing the moderates who might protect them.
Permanent war is easier to sell when only religious zealots are left standing.
