54:52Now PlayingWhen I asked Greg Swenson, who is the Chair of Republicans Overseas UK, to come onto my channel this week, it was with the intention of discussing US President Trump's state visit to the UK. Not for the first time, we were overtaking by events, as the news broke that Greg's friend Charlie Kirk was murdered in Utah.
It prompted a discussion about the incredible intellectual exchange that is taking place at the moment between British and US conservatives, of which Charlie was absolutely at the forefront. Indeed he visited both the Cambridge and Oxford Unions (for my American watchers, these are debating societies) just a few months ago.
In a sense, both countries are undergoing twin revolutions, or perhaps I should say counter-revolutions, though each is at a very different stage. President Trump, and even moreso his Vice-President JD Vance, when they come to Britain on Tuesday, will carry the mantle of our conservative understanding of liberty and will press our current Labour government on why they're not fulfilling it.
