As I've argued for several years now, much of the political divide in this country can be traced all the way back to ancient Greece, and the different philosophies of two men: Plato and Aristotle. Whereas Aristotle believed that a polity's constitution should be determined by the practical effects on those who lived within it; Plato argued that societies were best organised by experts, and that these experts might even need to invent fictitious narratives in order to delude and pacify the restless population. These narratives have a name: noble lies.

Britain had, for hundreds of years, an Aristotelian constitution, but the Blairite revolution made it a Platonic one, stripping power away from democratically elected politicians and placing it in the hands of experts; namely lawyers and bureaucrats. This constitutional vandalism was entrenched through the promulgation of several noble lies, which tricked people into thinking things about Britain that simply aren't true.

In this interview for The Sceptic podcast with Laurie Wastell, I dissect one of the most persistent noble lies; that the migrants who came to this country from the Commonwealth after the Second World War, beginning with those aboard HMT Empire Windrush, "built Britain". This is nonsense and needs to be debunked.
