But we forget we have had ‘uniparties’ before. The current and increasing impoverishment of this country began in 1945. When the Labour government created a state at least as socialised as East Germany (fortunately without the Stasi).
Winston Churchill had brilliantly denounced this in the run-up to the 1945 election.
But when he was returned to office in 1951 he accepted it as a fait accompli, and the results have been with us ever since.
