"One woman tried to flag the killer - she was accused of racism" | Starkey & Mogg

In this week's episode of Starkey & Mogg, Sir Jacob and I discuss Sir Adrian Fulford's inquiry into the Southport murders by Axel Rudakubana. We firstly commend Sir Adrian for the briskness of the report, the clarity of its language, and his willingness to apportion moral responsibility for the horrific crimes carried out by the killer.

The report catalogues institutional failure from the top to the bottom. As Sir Jacob rightly says, everywhere in our institutions has process replaced judgement. The one woman who did, in fact, try to exercise judgement, a teacher called Joanne Hodson, has described how she felt "shut up" after being accused of racially profiling Rudakubana. Once again, disturbing behaviour from an individual of an ethnic minority background is ignored in the name of anti-racism.

Until we purge our institutions of THEIR collective bias, we fear incidents like the terrible Southport murders can recur.
