Bob Ruff joins us tonight to discuss his 17th season of the Truth and Justice Podcast. This time Bob is trying to get to the bottom of Chris Bynum's case out of Indiana.

On the night of February 16–17, 2000, five people were shot and killed in Gary’s Aetna neighborhood: Anthony Jeffers, Angela and Susan Wallace inside a house, and Elizabeth Daily-Ayres and Sheila Bartee discovered later at a nearby baseball field.

The State's key piece of evidence was a statement by 12-year‑old boy inside the house who claimed he heard gunshots and reportedly overheard someone say “Chris”—he later described the shooter as slim, around 6', with a gap in his teeth.

Then twenty-one-year-old Cleveland “Christopher” Bynum, identified by the boy’s description, was arrested on February 18. During a nine-hour interrogation, detectives say he first admitted to three of the killings and implicated two others; 56 hours later, he gave a second statement claiming Jeffers had killed the field victims ― this contradictory confession was used against him.

Bynum maintains that the confessions were coerced—interrogators allegedly denied his request for a lawyer and basic comforts, threatened his fiancée and child, and leveraged fear and deprivation during the interrogation.

Chris Bynum remains in prison and continues his fight for his exoneration.
