The school opened in 1964 and was adapted and added to over the years that followed. In 2011 the school moved from the hands of the local authority to a C of E academy trust. The trust then began construction of a new, larger academy within which they could merge this school with one of their other local schools. This site closed in 2013 and has sat dormant since. At the time of closure it had just shy of 900 pupils.
Interestingly, at the time of closure this school had an OFSTED rating of 'requires more improvement', whereas the new site when first rated could only muster an 'inadequate'. That's progress for you, I suppose.
The site has outline planning permission in place for a housing estate (to the surprise of nobody) so will, I am sure, soon be replaced with a flock of identikit box houses. Again, progress.
