0:53Now PlayingSt. Faustina once wrote something startling in her Diary (342): “Suffering is the greatest treasure on earth.” At first, that may seem impossible to understand — how can pain be a treasure? Yet she gives us the key: suffering purifies the soul.
Jesus Himself said, “Blessed are the pure of heart, for they shall see God” (Mt 5:8). Purity of heart prepares us for the greatest joy imaginable — to see God face to face in the beatific vision. The trials and crosses we bear, when united to Christ, strip away our attachments and selfishness, making room for divine love to fill our hearts.
When we embrace suffering in faith, it becomes a mysterious participation in Christ’s redemptive work. The very thing we most want to avoid becomes the instrument of our sanctification. That is why the saints saw suffering not as punishment, but as a privilege — a share in the Cross that leads to resurrection.
So when suffering comes, don’t run from it. Unite it with the wounds of Jesus. In that surrender, God turns your pain into grace — and your sorrow into the pure joy of Heaven.
