Reforming the Church Begins with the Heart

As we look at the life of St. Charles Borromeo, we’re reminded that the renewal of the Church — and the world — starts not in grand reformations or public campaigns, but in the quiet conversion of each human heart. St. Charles lived in a time of deep corruption and confusion, both within the Church and society. Yet his response was not outrage or despair, but purification. He reformed his own soul first, and from there, his holiness became contagious.

Fr. Matt reminds us that if we want to see the Church shine with holiness again, we must begin with ourselves. Every sin, every selfish act, every time we fail to love God or neighbor weakens the Body of Christ. But every pure intention, every act of love, every prayer offered with sincerity strengthens it. As St. Charles shows us, the true reformer is the one who allows Christ to reform his heart first.

So let us ask ourselves: are our daily actions done out of love for others and for the glory of God? Whether we’re at work, at home, or at prayer, holiness begins with the intention behind what we do.
