The Fact No One Wants to Face

Fr. Mark Baron delivers a sobering reminder about a truth often ignored in our world today: not everyone goes to Heaven. In a culture that avoids talk of sin and judgment, it’s easy to grow lukewarm — to assume that salvation is automatic, that God’s mercy means He overlooks justice. But the Gospel tells us otherwise.

Scripture is clear: “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive recompense… according to what he did in the body, whether good or evil” (2 Cor 5:10). When we die, each of us will stand before the Lord, and nothing will be hidden. Every thought, word, and action will be revealed before the eyes of Truth Himself.

Fr. Mark urges us to reflect seriously on how we live each day — not with despair, but with holy fear and hope. If we die in a state of grace, trusting in Christ and living His commandments, we will see the face of Mercy. But if we persist in sin, refusing repentance, that same Mercy becomes judgment.

St. Faustina wrote, “Before I come as the Just Judge, I am coming first as the King of Mercy” (Diary, 83). Now is the time to return to Him — to receive His mercy through the Sacraments, to live faithfully, and to rekindle the fire of love that lukewarmness extinguishes.
