YouTube Description
as posted by the channelFr. Chris Alar reminds us today that the heart of Christian love is selfless giving — the kind that expects nothing in return. Christ Himself taught, “It is more blessed to give than to receive” (Acts 20:35). Yet how often do we give only when we know we’ll be thanked, recognized, or repaid? True holiness is revealed not when we are repaid for our generosity, but when we give freely because it pleases God.
Think about it: God Himself gave us everything — creation, redemption, and the gift of salvation — and received nothing from us in return. What could humanity possibly give back to the Almighty that He does not already possess? And yet, He gives still. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son” (Jn 3:16). That act of divine love is the model for all Christian charity: love that asks for nothing, gives without limit, and delights simply in the good of the other.
Fr. Chris explains that this is where the joy of God is found — in pure, sacrificial giving. When we imitate His generosity, we enter into His own divine life. Every gift of mercy, every hidden act of kindness, becomes a reflection of God’s perfect love. As the Catechism teaches, “Love is the fundamental and innate vocation of every human being” (CCC 2392). We are created to give, not to gain.
Let us learn from the Giver of all gifts. Give when it costs you. Give when no one notices. Give when there’s nothing in it for you. That is when your heart mirrors the heart of Christ — and in that, you’ll find the deepest blessing of all.
