Becoming Prayer

When asked about their prayer life, many Christians respond, “I say my prayers at the end of the day.” This formulaic approach places God last, after all other obligations are fulfilled.

Father Daniel explains that believers are not called merely to recite texts, but to become prayer throughout the day. True spirituality requires speaking to the Lord, Our Lady, St. Michael, and the heavenly hosts continuously, inviting them into our daily lives. This cultivates an interior fortress that weakens our concupiscence (the tendency of our fallen nature toward sin) and strengthens our resistance to temptation.

Father Daniel emphasizes cultivating interior purity by keeping Jesus and Mary at the forefront of our mind. Keeping sacred images at hand, reciting short prayers like the Jesus Prayer or “Jesus, Mary, I love you,” and invoking these Holy Names throughout the day invite their presence. Saints often died with these names on their lips, reflecting deep intimacy with our Lord and Our Lady.

Nothing should be done without them. Every activity thereby becomes an opportunity to proclaim our love for Jesus and Mary. This sacred invocation demonstrates that prayer is not best done by obligation, but out of desire for closeness with Jesus and His whole Mystical Body, the Church, including her angels and saints in glory. Such intimacy provides to us strength for the spiritual battles we inevitably face, living in this fallen world.
