0:40Now PlayingHow is the Father known to us? He is revealed by the Son. Jesus said in Scripture, "You do not know me unless you know the Holy Spirit, the Paraclete." So how do we know the Son? We know Him through the Holy Spirit. But how do we know the Holy Spirit? That power that gives us to live this good life, this eternal life on earth? Go to the Blessed Mother, the spouse of the Holy Spirit.
Father Chris Alar, MIC, reflects on this profound passage from the Gospel of John, exploring the intimate connection between the Trinity and our path to knowing God. The Father is revealed by the Son. The Son is known through the Holy Spirit. And the Holy Spirit is embodied in the life of the Blessed Mother.
Saint Maximilian Kolbe taught that Mary is the quasi-incarnation of the Holy Spirit. She embodies all the virtues of the Spirit and lived them completely. This is the key to understanding this passage. It is not enough to simply say we believe. We must live it. We must embody the truth in our daily actions.
This teaching connects deeply with the Sacramental life of the Church. Through the Sacraments, we receive grace that enables us to live as children of God. The Holy Spirit works through these sacred signs to transform our hearts and minds. We are called to cooperate with that grace, to allow the Spirit to produce fruit in our lives.
Mary shows us what this looks like. She said yes to God's call. She carried the Word into the world. She stood at the foot of the Cross. She waited in prayer with the apostles for the coming of the Holy Spirit. Her life is a model for all who seek to know God through His Spirit.
In a world full of noise and distraction, we are invited to slow down and listen. To listen to the Word of God in Scripture. To listen to the quiet voice of the Spirit in prayer. To learn from Mary, who pondered all things in her heart. This is how we return to the Father. This is how we live the eternal life that begins now.
