In his homily for the Solemnity of the 66th Anniversary of the Dedication of the Shrine, Fr. Matthew Tomeny, MIC, reflected on the Shrine as the House of God, a sacred place kept and protected by the Lord when it remains truly centered on Him. Pointing to the original altar and the presence of Christ in the Eucharist and tabernacle, he reminded us that every church directs our hearts toward our true purpose: to be oriented toward God.

Fr. Matthew invited the faithful to ask, “What is my orientation?” Not simply in terms of feelings or attractions, but in the deepest spiritual sense: where is my life directed? Just as churches have traditionally faced East, toward the rising sun and the coming light, we are called to face Christ, the true Light who comes from the East. As temples of God, we must continually reorient ourselves toward Jesus, the new and living Temple, present whenever two or three are gathered in His name and especially in the Holy Eucharist.
