David Gunter, MIC, Rector of the National Shrine of The Divine Mercy, reflects on the reality that faithful Catholics will face persecution and division, just as St. Paul warned in today's reading from 2 Timothy. He reminds us that the evil one sows seeds of doubt to foster discouragement to pull us away faithful Catholics from Christ and from the mission God has entrusted to them.
Jesus never promised that following Him would be easy. He calls us to deny ourselves, take up our cross, and trust not in our own strength, but in the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Faith is not merely intellectual — it must come from the heart, where the Lord teaches us to recognize what is true and to do the will of the Father.
Fr. David also reminds us that we are living in a Marian age. Through the Rosary and devotion to Mary’s Immaculate Heart, she will protect our faith, and lead us more deeply to Jesus.
