Remembering Maureen Digan, Marian Helper

Today, we remember Maureen Digan, whose life became a powerful witness to The Divine Mercy and the intercession of St. Faustina.

In March 1981, Maureen traveled to the tomb of Sister Faustina in Kraków-Łagiewniki, Poland. She had suffered for years from Milroy’s Disease, an incurable form of lymphedema. Doctors had already amputated one leg and expected the other would soon need to be amputated as well.

At the tomb, Maureen prayed for Sister Faustina’s intercession. She later recalled hearing in her heart: “If you ask for my help, I will give it to you.” In that moment, the pain left her body, the swelling disappeared, and her leg returned to normal.

When Maureen returned to the United States, doctors found no medical explanation for her complete healing. The Church later accepted her cure as a miracle through Sister Faustina’s intercession — a miracle that helped lead to the beatification of St. Faustina Kowalska.

Maureen passed away on June 1. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, June 12, at 11:00 a.m. at the National Shrine of The Divine Mercy in Stockbridge, with burial following at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Lee.

May her life continue to remind us to trust in God’s mercy and share that mercy with others.

Jesus, I trust in You.
