In today’s homily for the Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul, Apostles, Fr. Chris Alar reflects on how Jesus founded one Church, not thousands of separate churches. Christ gave Peter full authority to guide, teach, protect, and shepherd His Church, entrusting him with the mission to “feed my lambs.” Peter’s leadership was foundational, giving him the authority to settle doctrine, preserve unity, and lead the Body of Christ.

Fr. Chris also explains that St. Paul confirms Peter’s leadership and that this authority continues through apostolic succession in the Popes. The Catholic Church, rooted in Rome through Peter and Paul, has preserved the Scriptures, defended the truth, forgiven sins through Christ’s authority, and continued the ministry Jesus established. This is not merely an institution, but the Church founded by Christ and entrusted to Peter and his successors.
