Afrika Bambaataa: Radio Refuses to Play More Political Hip-Hop

The legendary Afrika Bambaataa sat down with VladTV recently to share his thoughts on the pastpopularity of political/socially conscious records and the decline of today's artists willing to embrace it, with Bambaataa feeling that today's radio conglomerates have contributed to its lack of popularity by refusing to play records that fall out of line with the status quo. Even when a modern day rapper such as Immortal Technique chooses to address serious issues, his records will be ignored by radio which will always limit the amount of people who hear and embrace the music. That's why Afrika encourages the culture to embrace online radio and streaming so that alternative voices can be heard just as much as standard radio tunes.
