Chris "Kid" Reid described growing up in New York with a Jamaican father and Irish mother during the 1960s and 1970s. With racism still prevalent in the country, Reid said his grandparents disowned his mother and never spoke to her again. Reid added that his grandparents' appearance at his mother's funeral was the only time he saw them. After his mother passed away in a car accident, when he was nine-years-old, he lived with his father and described the culture shock around the new experience. Reid also described being biracial and feeling much more accepted by Blacks than Whites.
