In this clip, Token reflects back on listening to music by Eminem, 2Pac and Ludacris as a kid. He then explains the ways that their emotional rap deliveries influenced his development as an aspiring rapper. The 23-year-old emcee went on to say that because he was such an angry kid, he related to the passion that those rappers had in their songs. Therefore, music became his emotional escape for him, along with food.
As the interview continued, Token described himself as an overweight kid who lost a lot of weight fairly quickly. He said experiencing the weight loss taught him that he could achieve many other goals that he set for himself, including his goal of becoming a rapper.
Lastly, Token shares the details about why he changed his rap name from BDG to Token, releasing his first song on YouTube at the age of fourteen, becoming a viral sensation at the age of seventeen and developing a genuine friendship with award-winning actor Mark Wahlberg.
