In this clip, Matt Barnes spoke about launching “All the Smoke” with Stephen Jackson on Showtime, and Matt called it a “blessing in disguise.” Matt then explained how he had a conversation with Stephen about starting their own podcast with their own rules, and he detailed doing Kobe Bryant’s last interview. Matt added that his goal was to show people like Kevin Durant and Kobe in a more personal light. Speaking more about Kobe, Matt explained what it was like when he got the news of Kobe’s death, and he admits that “it still doesn’t seem real.” Matt then revealed how he went from being a competitor of Kobe to Kobe personally calling him to join the Lakers, which led to Matt speaking about their tight bond and friendship. From there, Matt detailed watching Kobe’s daughter Gianna excel at basketball, which Matt says made Kobe fall in love with the game again. Moving along, Matt reacted to Nick Young telling a story about Kobe making Lakers players take off his shoes as they were losing to Portland. Matt then spoke about Kobe riding out the storms with the Lakers, and he also addressed a story about Kobe coming at Jordan for dissing him during a game.
