The Motown legend explains that although the audition didn't go for the group, it served as his personal introduction to Barry Gordy, Jackie Wilson's primary songwriter. The R&B legend explains that because his group's audition featured nothing but original material that he wrote, Barry was highly impressed. After being told by Jackie Wilson's managers that his group would never make it, Barry approached him when they were outside about his music and the rest is history.
