Bill Duke Recalls Getting News That Emmett Till Was Killed (Flashback)

After the news broke about the death of Carolyn Bryant, the woman whose lies led to the death of 14-year-old Emmett Till in 1955, we take a look back at Bill Duke’s 2018 VladTV interview. During the sit-down, Bill spoke about growing up in Poughkeepsie, New York in the 1930s and 40s, where he said he was raised by his parents, who had a third and fourth grade education. Bill went on to speak about the oppression that his parents faced in the South, and he added that he also faced racism as a child. From there, Vlad pointed out that Bill was 12 when Emmett Till was killed, and Bill started off stating that he was going to get emotional speaking about when he learned of Till’s death.
